Wy Works :
I ran a small to medium sized business for 23 years- the business and accounting skills I acquired I have applied on the Council by taking an active role in scrutiny and auditing on the budget panel , pension committee and licence & alcohol committee.
Father to 3 adult children- I have used the mentoring skills, nurturing and guidance skills to support the new councilors as they find their feet on the Council and I have taken an active interest in ensuring that the Council mainstreams equality and gives priority concern to the most vulnerable residents of Brent.
Lived in Brent for 9 years and a local councillor for 3 years- during the years that I have lived in Brent and been a local councillor I have built a strong working relationships with a wide circle of community and voluntary groups in Brent and outside the borough and I have been able to use the relationships to help the Council build new relationships or strengthen existing relationships with the residents of Brent and with agencies and partners based outside the borough.
  • First Labour Councillor in Alperton for 15 years – I have used this opportunity to reconnect the Labour Party to the lapsed Labour members in Alperton and rebuilt the relationship between the Labour Party and local community groups and voluntary groups in Alperton.
  • Chairman of Vidhya Sagar School- (South-hall) for 20 years &
  • Chair- alcohol and licensing committee – I have now built a considerable knowledge and depth of experience in chairing meetings, successfully diffusing tensions in meetings and keeping meetings to the agreed agenda and timescale.
  • Co-op Group/party member- my active membership of the Co-op movement has exposed me to the concerns of a wide range of people and in particular to the concerns of the ethnic minority communities and the most vulnerable residents of Brent.
